Serie A: Juventus suffer defeat again, Roma return to winning ways

End of Season discount soccer shoes , please clickNapoli ensured Juventus' miserable start to the Serie A season continued as they held on for a 2-1 victory at San Paolo Stadium on Saturday. Max Allegri's men, who now have just five points from six matches, could find themselves 13 adrift of Inter Milan should the current leaders beat Fiorentina on Sunday night. Napoli, who followed a 5-0 win against Lazio with a disappointing goalless draw with Carpi in midweek, deserved their victory, with goals from Lorenzo Insigne and Gonzalo Higuain securing the points.Elsewhere on Saturday, Roma returned to winning ways in Serie A with a 5-1 home thrashing of Carpi. A first victory in three attempts was authored by Kostas Manolas, Miralem Pjanic and Gervinho in the first half, with Mohamed Salah and Lucas Digne making the points safe after the break. Marco Borriello's consolation goal from a diving header did nothing to hurt his former employers and promoted Carpi remain winless.

Ollie's predictions: Shocks galore with wins for Reading and Bristol City

Ian Holloway gives his Football League predictions Sky Sports pundit Ian Holloway predicts the outcome of the big Football League weekend fixtures..... One of the real eye opening things that has caught my attention in my new job is being in among the fans from our position in the studio. It's amazing to see some of their behaviour. Some people don't even watch the game! Some are so quick to moan. I would strongly advise any football supporter to support - you can make a difference. Words are really important. I know this because my deaf daughters can't hear them. Only in football can you complain vocally and not get thrown out. If you are there just to see a win, don't bother going. There are going to be bad times. It makes you appreciate the good ones. To win on a regular basis is the hardest thing in football. If your team aren't trying and aren't earning their money then that's when I think you can go mad but it doesn't happen often. Never lose passion. That's what football gives you and that's what football is all about. The 12th man syndrome is a cliché but it's crucial and will make a big difference in this weekend's fixtures. Claudio Ranieri warns Leicester to stop conceding first goal as Arsenal await

Claudio Ranieri has told comeback specialists Leicester their luck will run out if they continue conceding the first goal in games. City have come from behind to claim points in each of their past four Premier League games, winning from 2-0 down against Aston Villa and salvaging a 2-2 draw from a similar position against Stoke. But Ranieri believes it will take "the perfect match" to beat Arsenal at the King Power Stadium this weekend, and that does not involve giving the visitors a goal start. Eddie Howe says Stoke 'are better than their league position'

They don't look like a team that haven't won yet. They are the kind of side that you will see in a few weeks and they will be in a very different position. "But we don't need to worry about that. We know that if we are at our best we can beat anyone in this league, so it's down to us. "The performance against Sunderland was good but we will prepare for Stoke on an individual basis. They don't look like a team that haven't won yet. Eddie Howe on Stoke "We are not at the stage where we can start to group games together. We want points from every game." Looking ahead to the fixture, Howe says skipper Tommy Elphick and midfielder Harry Arter are missing because of injury. He added: "Both Tommy and Harry are still out. Tommy has flown to Sweden to get an update on his injury and Harry is still continuing his rehab. "Harry has had a little niggle this week, not on his original injury, so it's just a case of letting that settle down.

Stewart Downing answers the tough questions on FL72 Podcast

Who is not the brightest? Ben Gibson. He thinks he's clever, but he's not. He's not streetwise, he's a bit dopey and takes a bit of stick. Do you have any pre-match superstitions? Not a ritual, but I sit in the changing room before the game, read the programme and chat to the kit man. Ben Gibson has this thing where he has a drink at the side of the pitch and does a snake run and a sprint. The lads are on at him about that. Who is the best player you've played with? Can I have two? I'll go Mark Viduka and Luis Suarez. Downing ranks Luis Suarez and Mark Viduka as the best he has played with Downing ranks Luis Suarez and Mark Viduka as the best he has played with Who do you wish you could play with? It has to be Lionel Messi. I played against Cristiano Ronaldo as a young lad coming through at United but I love Messi. Best moment in football so far? Hopefully at the end of this season, still to come! But obviously your debut is a big thing, those UEFA Cup nights at Boro, and your England debut is a big thing. But promotion with Boro at the end of this season would be the highlight. Worst moment in football so far? Getting relegated with Boro.

Anthony Martial can be 'fantastic' for Manchster United, says Claudio Ranieri

"I think it was important for him to score a goal," said Ranieri. "He was paid a lot of money and the people expect. "But let him grow up slowly. He is a fantastic player but it is important he maintain his calm. "Let him concentrate on his job and I believe he can have a very fantastic career." Asked if Martial could improve further, Ranieri added: "Yes, but now it is important he shows how he plays. "At a fantastic moment, he smells it, and switches on."

Birmingham boss Gary Rowett reckons Aston Villa counterpart Tim Sherwood is in a tough position

Villa were jeered off the pitch at the end of their 1-0 reverse to Midlands rivals West Brom on Saturday, a result which leaves them sitting fourth from bottom in the Premier League. "I watched his team when he took over at Tottenham, I thought he did a very, very good job there, his win ratio was excellent," Rowett said. "And I think we all have to understand that also coming to Villa at the moment is not an easy job, it's a difficult job. "I think losing some of the players that they lost in the summer makes that job doubly-hard. Any side that loses Benteke and Fabian Delph, regardless of how they've left, it's going to be a difficult job to take on.

Sky Bet Championship: Derby 0-0 Burnley

Derby had claims for a penalty turned down in the seventh minute when Chris Martin collided with the onrushing Heaton. Crucially though, Heaton had got a touch on the ball. The Rams remained on the front foot for the rest of the first half but could not penetrate a well-organised Burnley backline. Burnley might have taken the lead just before half-time when a David Jones corner created uncertainty in the Derby six-yard box and the ball bobbled about before Boyd hooked it over the crossbar. Derby resumed after the interval where they had left off and Keogh powered a near-post header narrowly over the crossbar from a Johnny Russell corner. But the story was largely much the same as the first 45 minutes as Clement's team, while enjoying sustained periods of pressure, never troubled Heaton. When the Clarets keeper was beaten by another Keogh header in the 77th minute Tendayi Darikwa was in the right place at the right time, as he had been for much of the match, to nod away the ball from just in front of his goal line. George Thorne worked Heaton for the first time a minute later with a 25-yard shot that the former Manchester United trainee athletically tipped away.

Everton's Steven Naismith describes Chelsea hat-trick in his own words

You're disappointed [not to play], but you've got to be ready and you've got to support the team. I think the boys who started the season have done pretty well and they could argue they deserved to start over someone like myself who probably hasn't played as much. That's the way football is, but it can change so much. By the end of the day it was a perfect day for me. Something I've learned over the years is how quickly subs can be made. Some players don't have their boots tied or shin guards on, but I get everything ready and it means at times like Saturday when you're called upon you can be ready in 10 seconds, rather than five minutes. First goal Naismith celebrates scoring the opening goal Naismith celebrates scoring the opening goal We had good possession in their half and when Gareth Barry and Ross Barkley get on the ball their first instincts are always to look forward. I just tried to get in the pocket between the midfield and defence and when I did I found a bit of space. Brendan Galloway made a great overlapping run and it was just a case of a race to get in the box and get in the end of it. It was a perfect ball in and made the header much easier than it could have been

Chelsea striker Diego Costa should have been sent off, claims Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

He can do what he wants, he stays on and everybody else who responds to him has to be sent off. I think it is unacceptable his behaviour," said Wenger. "If you look well at the pictures what he does to Koscielny before he pushes him down he hits him in the face and the throat, he always gets away with it. "It is surprising and I don't understand Mike Dean's decision at all, not on the sending-off - why does Diego Costa stay on the pitch and Gabriel sent off? Wenger conceded that Gabriel deserved his red card for kicking Costa in a melee of protesting players at the end of the first half. Gabriel walks off the pitch in front Wenger as he is shown a red card Gabriel walks off the pitch in front Wenger as he is shown a red card "Gabriel is guilty for getting involved of course he should not have reacted at all," he said. "We expected that kind of game. We were not surprised but I expect the referee to make the right decision." Asked if he felt retrospective action from the Football Association was called for, Wenger replied: "That is the least they could do, but he will do the same again next week and the week after and he always gets away with it. "For me, it is always in provocation and he uses well the naivety of Mike Dean today. "Look at the pictures, it tells you a lot on slow motion. Before the cross comes in he hits him.

Real Madrid 1-0 Granada: Karim Benzema header edges Real Madrid past Granada

Injuries to Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos in the 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek forced Rafa Benitez to recall Pepe to defence and hand Lucas Vazquez his start for the club. Granada were thrashed 9-1 here last season, but the Andalusian side appeared to have learned the lessons from that day and coach Jose Ramon Sandoval employed an intelligent game plan based on deep defending and purposeful counter-attacking. Their approach meant Madrid did not create a clear opening until the 20th minute, when Isco played in Ronaldo, Andres Fernandez saved the Portuguese's shot and the ball dropped to Vazquez, who flashed the rebound well wide with the goal gaping. Granada went straight down the other end and thought they had taken a shock lead when Youssef El Arabi passed a low cross into the net, but the Moroccan was harshly ruled offside. Madrid recovered from this scare and grew in confidence. Fernandez spilled a free-kick from Ronaldo but got up in time to save Vazquez's attempt on the rebound with his shin, and on the half-hour mark the goalkeeper saved a stinging effort from Luka Modric with his feet. Isco then flashed a shot just wide of the far post, which an anguished Ronaldo was inches away from connecting with. The Portuguese also narrowly failed to get on the end of a cross from Benzema a minute before the break. At the other end, Granada striker Isaac Success was denied by the quick reactions of Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, and the visitors continued to play well in the second half.

Mourinho: Costa was man of the match for sure

Jose Mourinho praised Diego Costa and threw a few criticisms Arsenal’s way after Chelsea’s 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. Costa was somewhat the architect of Arsenal’s downfall in the Premier League at Saturday lunchtime, playing a key role in the first-half sending off of defender Gabriel. When asked on his thoughts of the fracas that ensued before, during and after Gabriel’s dismissal, Mourinho responded: “I don’t have a view on the sending off because I didn’t see the incident on television and the game is very, very fast. It looks for me that the referee and linesman had the same reactions. The Chelsea boss added: “Man of the match for sure was Diego Costa. He brought everything to the game, he played the game like a game like this has to be played.” Discussing his side’s victory, Mourinho fired an apparent shot at Chelsea’s London rivals. “I’ve played derbies in many countries and always say the same thing to my players: To win derbies you need emotional control. If that barb was veiled, Mourinho then made sure the message to his opponents was clear. “I played against Arsenal 12, 15, 18 times, I don’t know,” he began. “Only once he (Wenger) didn’t moan. On that day, we lost the game, we lost the cup, it was not good for us. We behaved in a fantastic way. No excuses, no crying, not moaning. Just Mr Jose Mourinho, my players and Chelsea Football Club.”

Chris Smalling flourishing under Louis van Gaal's tutelage at Manchester United

Chris Smalling says the meticulous training methods of Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal have allowed him to flourish under the Dutchman's tutelage. The England centre-back has been one of the star performers at Old Trafford this season, marshalling the United backline in the Reds' successful start to the campaign. And, speaking exclusively to Sky Sports ahead of United's trip to Southampton on Super Sunday, Smalling confirmed he had benefited from Van Gaal's training methods.

Bournemouth 2-0 Sunderland: Ritchie rocket

Matt Ritchie scored a sublime goal and Callum Wilson was on the scoresheet again as Bournemouth beat Sunderland 2-0 to leave the Black Cats bottom. Cherries boss Eddie Howe uncharacteristically made five changes to the side which lost at Norwich last weekend but he was rewarded as his team were straight out of the traps. Sunderland had hardly touched the ball before Wilson scored his fifth Premier League goal of the campaign and a stunner from Matt Ritchie put them out of sight of Sunderland, who had defender Younes Kaboul sent off in the second half after the France international had been given the run-around by Wilson. The last time the Black Cats were on the south coast they capitulated in an 8-0 defeat at Southampton, but although they looked in danger of a repeat, Dick Advocaat’s side rallied and former Bournemouth loanee Jermain Defoe missed a golden chance before Jeremain Lens saw an effort wrongly disallowed for offside. Howe, who played alongside Defoe during his stint with the Cherries, may have labelled the striker the best finisher he has ever seen but Wilson may soon give him a run for his money as the man whose goals saw Bournemouth reach the Premier League struck inside the opening four minutes. Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon had blasted a clearance out of the modest Vitality Stadium but the hosts were quick to react and Simon Francis found Dan Gosling with the resulting throw-in, with the former Newcastle man sliding in Wilson, who held off Kaboul to fire home the opener. If that goal was impressive, the second that followed five minutes later was spectacular. Sunderland cleared a near-post corner but only as far as Ritchie, who controlled the ball on his chest and flashed a volley past Pantilimon before the former Manchester City man could move. Howe said ahead of the game that keeping Defoe quiet would make the difference for his side, but when the former Tottenham man was slipped through on goal he could not reduce the arrears as Artur Boruc kept out his low shot. Advocaat introduced Jack Rodwell at half-time and the midfielder saw an effort deflect behind for a corner from which Lens scored a diving header, only to see the assistant referee wrongly flag for offside. The visitors had their tails up and Fabio Borini arrowed a long-range strike inches over Boruc’s goal as they looked to get a foothold on the game.

Swansea 0-0 Everton: Stones brilliant in draw

John Stones was the star as Everton and Swansea played out an entertaining 0-0 draw, with Kevin Mirallas sent off late on. Defender Stones was the subject of a number of bids from Premier League champions Chelsea this summer, but continued to prove his worth for the Everton cause with a number of impressive blocks and tackles against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. Both sides had chances to win, with Bafetimbi Gomis and Jefferson Monteo going close for the hosts as Romelu Lukaku and Brendan Galloway both spurned opportunities themselves. Substitute Mirallas was then dismissed in second half stoppage time just 112 seconds after coming on for a late challenge on substitute Modou Barrow as the two sides settled for a draw. The Toffees carried the greatest threat for much of an entertaining contest which somehow remained goalless despite the amount of clear-cut chances created. Stones and Ross Barkley shone throughout but Everton could not take advantage of the latter’s excellent approach play, with Lukaku the biggest culprit in front of goal for the visitors. Swansea also had their moments to bounce back from last weekend’s shock defeat at Watford with Tim Howard saving smartly on a few occasions – but Everton might have had strong claims for a penalty when Ashley Williams appeared to trip Steven Naismith late on. Everton’s proud record of never having lost to Swansea in the league stood at 20 games but the Toffees suffered a blow before kick-off when Seamus Coleman failed to recover from a hamstring injury. Tyias Browning was handed his first Premier League start at right-back and with Brendan Galloway, who was only making his seventh top-flight appearance, on the left there was an inexperienced look about Everton’s full-backs. It was an area Swansea were no doubt keen to exploit, particularly as Montero had returned to the left side of their attack following a thigh problem, and Browning was given an indication of the task ahead of him inside five seconds when the Ecuadorian flier went past him.
